What a pleasure it was last week to speak with CityLIS students from City University about the types of career journey that a library qualification can open up in the legal, and wider professional services sector.
My talk, which centered on applying library skills in a legal setting and tips on potentially getting a foot in the door, was just a small part of a wider array of talks, tasks and lectures. This module, which is a pilot scheme by City University also served to provide students with insight into topics such as KM in legal, some of the innovations used in professional services such as AI and how firms create and use current awareness. From our perspective, and as an organization that helps graduates find their first roles in law, it’s having this additional understanding and context, that really can make a difference when interviewing.
On the back of my discussion, it was great to engage with a number of people who are enthused about the industry and some of whom might just be the next rising star for some of our customers.
A big thanks to Jake Hearn and Lyn Robinson for inviting us to speak and for arranging the module.
