As the leading recruitment business and consultancy for knowledge management (KM), CB Resourcing regularly consults on knowledge management projects across a range of industries from consulting to private equity.
Our team bring decades of experience scoping the KM challenges faced by our clients organisations into definable outcomes. The CB Resourcing approach begins by mapping the objectives of our client’s organisation to tangible objectives from the strategic to the operational side of KM.
We consult in depth with our clients to get the right job specification or statement of work for their objectives whilst advising on and sourcing KM experts to fulfil each requirement.
Typical KM implementation projects involve a blended approach of our specialist interims but also providing permanent KM staff from KM Manager to CKO level.
After a recent conversation with one of our trusted interims I put together a few reflections on our recent projects:
KM starts with people
- You need to think people, then process, then tools. Organisations who invest in technology expecting to ‘fix KM’ without looking at people and process first invariably struggle to realise the full benefits of their technology investment
- KM implementation is change management, that means building relationships, negotiating and understanding business context
- Good KM should be like the swan – working furiously beneath the surface to present a composed image on the surface
KM needs to align with the organisations priorities
- KM is not the saviour, when it is working it should be like any other support function
- It should not get too theoretical – practical solutions that drive engagement within an organisation drive the meaningful returns on investment
- There are many ways to approach KM and it needs to be focused on the priorities of the enterprise
- Any successful KM project needs support from the organisations executives acting as key sponsors
KM is increasing relevant in a Covid19 world
- As we’ve seen in recent projects KM will increasingly become a part of business continuity planning in a post Covid19 world
- The expanding use of MS Teams and Slack is going to create an even bigger need for active curation to ensure organisations can leverage their own expertise effectively
