Information Assistant - Law - 3 days per week - London

A highly reputable and forward thinking law firm that is headquartered in London has an opportunity for a Information Assistant to join their team on a part-time basis. This role would be a great introduction to the legal sector for a graduate in a library related field, but equally it could suit someone currently studying or looking for reduced hours. The position is one that is administrative focused and the primary objective is to support the development and maintenance of the firms hardcopy collection. The role will also introduce the successful applicant to some of the wider tasks of information and library services in a legal setting.

In this Information Assistant role, the tasks and objectives include, but are not limited to:

  • Shelve and organize books and journals.
  • Manage book circulation and send overdue notices.
  • Conduct periodic floor walks to locate missing books and journals, and keep an updated list of missing items.
  • File loose-leaf updates.
  • Assist in maintaining the online library management system and keeping accurate serials records.
  • Update intranet IS pages and guides.
  • Manage the check-in and circulation of periodicals, including receiving and claiming print journals.
  • Keep up-to-date circulation lists for both hardcopy and online journals.
  • Assist users with journal article requests.
  • Undertake basic inquiries, including legal research on cases and legislation.
  • Produce company information reports and research.
  • Conduct regular press searches and alerts.
  • Assist in periodic stock checks and the withdrawal of outdated stock.
  • Help distribute permanent loan copies to fee earners.
  • Participate in team meetings to develop library, information, and knowledge services.

To be a suitable candidate for this role, applicants will require the following:

  • A library related qualification or some previous experience in a similar role, ideally within a legal related library or information setting
  • A demonstrable passion for a library and information role in law
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and customer facing skills
  • A logical approach to tasks and problem solving
  • The ability to work in a way that balances taking the initiative, but also asking for help and guidance when required
  • Able to offer 3 days per week in a London based office
