Information Services Officer - Law - London, Sheffield or Edinburgh

One of the worlds leading and most prestigious law firms has a requirement for an Information Services Officer. This role will be joining a sizeable team that is dispersed across sites in London, Yorkshire and Scotland and this is a role that could be based in any of these locations. The information responsibilities in this role are wide-ranging and include research, current awareness, training, procurement and contributing to the firms wider KM objectives. The position also offers the opportunity to join a firm that is extremely forward thinking, particularly in the way that they embrace technology such as GenAI.

In this Information Services Officer role, the responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • The provision of an enquiry driven legal and business research service, making use of a vast array of online and hardcopy resources
  • Supporting in the delivery of the firms current awareness output using tools such as Vable
  • Operating in the capacity of a subject matter expert with respect to research resources and methodologies
  • Providing training to new starters and established staff with access to research resources
  • Driving engagement within the firm and promoting the Information Services function
  • Seeking out opportunities to improve internal processes and the delivery of the information service
  • Taking responsibility for managing some vendors, expenditure and procurement
  • Contributing to the firms wider knowledge management objectives

To be a suitable candidate for this Information Officer role, candidates require the following skills and experience:

  • Previous experience in a similar Information Services, Information Officer or Research Librarian role, preferably gained in a legal or professional services setting
  • Highly developed legal research skills utilising a variety of online and hardcopy research resources such as Lexis, Westlaw and Vable
  • Some experience or exposure to business research resources such as MergerMarket, CapitalIQ or similar
  • Experience in horizon scanning and the delivery of a current awareness and newsfeed service
  • A Library Science or MLIS qualification is extremely desirable, but candidates qualified by experience may also be considered
  • Strong relationship building, stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • The ability to prioritise tasks and manage conflicting priorities
