Information Services Specialist (Resources Management Focused) - Law - London
An international law firm that has offices in the UK, US, Asia and Europe has a new requirement for an Information Professional to join their firm. This role is a new requirement within London and will have a considerable focus around the management of the firms research and information resources. The position is one in which there will be considerable interaction with lawyers and practice groups, establishing their needs and requirements, usage and to establish the return on investment that resources are achieving. The role will also work closely with the Head of Records and Subscriptions for procurement, renewals and to manage vendor relationships. There will also be opportunities to support in refining the process and procedures in place around information resource management. In addition to the key responsibilities, the role will also require the successful applicant to support on enquiries, library administration and knowledge sharing initiatives.
This role is likely to be suitable for someone that already has some exposure to managing information resources, but equally, someone in a more generalist research or information services role that is looking for a more specialist opportunity would be able to benefit from working very closely with the Head of function on a daily basis.
In this role the primary objectives and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Working closely with lawyers and practice groups to understand and define their information resources requirements
- Analysing resource usage, promoting engagement and establishing ROI
- Identify, test and assess new information resources and the provision of training
- The management, selection and procurement of resources and vendor relationship management working closely with the head of function
- Forging relationships within the firm and driving engagement with the Research function
- Undertaking research as and when required
- The management of the hardcopy resources and physical library
- Supporting on firm-wide KM initiatives and projects
- Occasional support of other jurisdictions, including the US
To be a suitable candidate for this Information Services role, a strong mix of the following is required:
- Previous experience in a similar research orientated information services role, ideally gained within a legal setting
- A demonstrable interest in undertaking a resources focused role
- Experience in the provision of both legal and business research utilising a variety of industry standard resources and databases
- Some previous experience managing resources, procurement and some exposure to vendor management would be extremely beneficial
- An ability to work in a relatively autonomous capacity and to seek out opportunities to maximise ROI
- Highly refined relationship building, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- A library or information qualification would be a distinct advantage, but is not a pre-requisite
