Library Assistant - Belfast - Law

A global law firm that has an office in Belfast has an opportunity for a person with strong administrative skills and an interest in libraries to begin their career as an information professional in a legal setting. This role is based in a Belfast office and will join a small team of around 7. The successful applicant will support a global network of lawyers and other key stakeholders by facilitating access to information resources and services from a library setting. It would represent a particularly outstanding opportunity for someone who has recently qualified as a librarian.

In this Library Assistant role, the responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Resource Management. Logging receipt of publications in library management system, Labelling and distribution of library materials as needed and claiming missing items. Processing and distributing new resources 
  • User Administration. Setting up new joiners access, resources and accounts and managing departing staff resources and subscriptions
  • Provide technical support. Maintaining the user database, being a point of enquiry for user issues and providing training to users. Performing routine data cleansing tasks
  • Assisting finance with coding of invoices for payment and re-allocating costs as needed
  • Library management and administration such as monitoring and responding to library requests. Administer and manage the overdue loans

To be a suitable candidate for this Library Assistant role, you will need a strong mix of the following:

  • A demonstrable interest in both libraries and information as a career
  • Ideally, around 1-2 years of administrative experience preferably gained in a professional services or corporate environment
  • An interest in the law or working within a legal setting
  • A Library Science or Information qualification would be extremely beneficial, but is not essential
  • Strong organisational skills, attentive to detail and the ability to prioritise tasks
  • Strong interpersonal, customer facing and relationship building skills
