Research, Information and Knowledge Officer - London - Law

A multinational law firm with a UK base in the City of London has a requirement for an Information Professional with Research and KM experience to join their team. In this role, the successful candidate will join a small and close-knit localised team and assume a position that offers a wide variety of responsibilities that cover research, knowledge and information management, as well as some more traditional physical library based tasks.  

In this Research, Information and Knowledge Officer role, the key responsibilities are as follows:

  • The provision of a business and legal research service that covers all practice areas and multiple jurisdictions including the US
  • The production of both a current awareness service and bulletins, again covering all practice areas
  • Supporting on the overall management of the firms library resources (both digital and physical)
  • Working with vendors to test, review and procure both physical and digital resources
  • Training both new starters and other stakeholders on the use of, and updates to research and other KM resources
  • Supporting in the continuous development and improvement of the firms KM capabilities
  • Operating as part of both a localised and geographically dispersed KM and Research team
  • Supporting on aspects of the management of the physical library including cataloguing and loose-leaf filing

To be a suitable candidate for this role, applicants will require the following experience and skills:

  • Previous experience in a similar Information Officer, Research or Knowledge Management role, ideally gained in a law firm setting
  • Highly developed research skills that cover both legal and business research. Experience of European or US legal research would be extremely beneficial
  • Exposure to Knowledge Management tasks within a legal setting such as managing know-how or other KM specific databases
  • Previous experience in the provision of training and the creation of training materials
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and stakeholder management skills
  • The ability to manage multiple and sometimes conflicting priorities
  • The role will require a degree of flexibility, particularly in support of project deadlines or critical business priorities
  • Ideally, a qualification in Library Science or an information related subject
