Sector Research Analyst - Financial Services and Insurance - Global Law Firm
An opportunity has arisen within one of the worlds largest and most successful law firms for a Sector Research Analyst with an alignment to Financial Services and Insurance. This role will join a globally dispersed team of Sector Research Analysts. The primary objective of the position is to provide sector expertise, analysis and modelling to underpin the firm's understanding and support of the clients and markets/sectors in which they are operating. The profile of candidate likely to be suitable for this role will already possess considerable expertise in either Financial Services, Insurance or possibly Investment Management, but will have the capability as an Analyst to quickly learn and assume ownership of other related sectors and markets. Due to the size and scale of the firm, the role could be attached to one of many UK cities where this firm has an office location.
In this Sector Research Analyst role, the primary objectives and responsibilities are as follows:
- Support a programme of industry/sector/client research and analysis to support business development initiatives in alignment with the Financial Services and Insurance sector strategic plans
- Evaluating developments (globally) in the specific markets, monitoring client and competitor activity and the provision regular briefings.
- Developing an expertise in hot-topics for these industries such as green finance and investment, and fintech
- Working in partnership with sector-aligned Partners, sector leadership, Marketing and Business Development and client relationship teams
- Collaborating with, and supporting the wider Sector Analyst team
- Creating products and services on key industry topics to aid fee earner knowledge of critical themes in financial services
- Supporting research queries requiring specialist FS, Investment Management or Insurance sector knowledge
- The provision of research input and advice for strategic activities such as client events, training, external publications, pitches or business development initiatives
- Support and develop knowledge plans for Financial Services and Insurance sectors which align with sector strategies
- Devise and deliver training to support industry knowledge and tools/resources utilised for research
To be a suitable candidate for this Sector Research Analyst role, a strong mix of the following is required:
- Previous experience in a similar research and analysis capacity, ideally gained in a legal or similar professional services environment
- A demonstrable track record of research and analysis aligned to Financial Services, Insurance or Investment Management
- The capability as an analyst or researcher to very quickly gain expertise in sectors where there is a shortfall of existing experience
- An approach to research and analysis that is driven by process, methodologies and critical thinking
- The ability to draw and deliver insight from research and analysis plus the ability to distil this into compelling presentations
- An ability to leverage or embrace technology such as PowerBI or AI to support research and analysis tasks
- Soft skills must include a collaborative approach, the ability to build and develop relationships, and to influence key stakeholders
